I Choose this book because it was recommended to me. This book was recommended by Hannah. She has read his books before and has said they are very good. I thought It would be interesting to see what there books were like. So far it’s a little confusing but Hannah said that it will get better.

Is there an idea in the book that makes you stop and think, or prompts questions? Identify the idea and explain your responses.
- There are a couple of way the author went that I wonder why they went that way. Well in this book they made all the relationships controlled by men. All of the men in this book are rube, controlling, and abusive. They have chosen this for all and none of the woman can even have jobs unless the money is needed. The woman don’t even choose what the money is used for. Also the other question I have is why put girls at that age in such serious relationships. All of these girls are in high school and one have older boyfriends in school or out of school. I think that is gross it is like 14 year old dating 25 year olds (around that age). For matters that are even worse one of the girls is engaged. Is the author like testing how deep into these girls can get into relationships without getting hurt? Those are just some of the things that I am wondering.

If you were the author, would you have changed the name of a character, or altered the location of a scene? What does the name mean to you? Do you have a negative connotation associated with the name (or the place)? What would you name the character instead? What would you use as a setting?

Who else should read this book? Should anyone not be encouraged to read this book? Why? Would you recommend the book to a friend or fellow classmate?
-I think that anyone who likes to read or likes this author. I think that girls would probably like this book more that guys. Some people would like some of the parts in here better than others. Also some parts are more for girls and they would like it better then the guys would. Same for the guys. If you like that sort of thing then you would like this book. Even if you don’t you should try reading some of the author other books.

Would you like to read more books by this author? Have you already read other books by the author? Why or why not?
-I would love to read more books by them. I think that their books are different then other authors. This is the first book I have ever read by this author. I haven’t read anything by this author because I have never heard of there books. Hannah was the one who told me about there books.

Write down your thoughts--after reading the opening chapter(s) of the book. How do your impressions change (or do they) after reading half the book? Do you feel any differently after finishing the book? Would you read the book again?
Part 1 (beginning)
- I think its an interesting book. Its hard to under stand. It keeps changing people and places. I don’t get who is who right now. Its good otherwise but its hard to get at first. I think and I hope that it will get better.
Part 2 (middle)
-I think that it’s a good book. It’s really interesting right now. Something sad just happened unfortunately. Write now has really good parts because relationships are getting interesting. People are leaving people and others are cheating and lying. Also Daughters of Eve (the club) people are leaving and not coming back. Other people are leaving and coming back. Some of the girls are not listening to there parents and going to meanings. Others are having other family problems. One girl she isn’t suffering herself but her mother is in an abusive relationship. The men thing this book think that they are the boss and that they own everything, even woman. This book is so far so good, I hope it keeps getting better.

Sometimes books touch you, reminding you of your own life, as part of the larger human experience. Are there connections between the book and your own life? Or, does the book remind you of an event (or events) that happened to someone you know? Does the book remind you of what happened in another book you've read?
- the bonds between the girls in the club reminded me of the girls in our class. Every one has there group of friends. Being in one of these groups there are many bonds. Some are stronger than others. I haven’t read a book that the people in it have such strong and weak bonds.
7. Jan 25, 2010
Are you confused about what happened (or didn't happen) in the book? What events or characters do you not understand? Does the use of language in the book confuse you? How did your confusion affect how you liked the book? Is there anything that the author could have done to make what happened (or didn't happen) more clear?
-At the beginning and in parts it is confusing. It switches from person to person and place to place. Once you have been reading it for a bit you start you understand it. One minute it was talking about a boys mother dyeing and then about a teachers life.
4. Jan 27, 2010
Would you like to be one of the characters (acquire a personality trait)? Which of the characters would you become, if you could? Why? If there's something about the character that you'd want to change, what is it?
- I would like to see what it would be like to be one of the characters. If I had to pick I would like to be Jane Rheardon. I would like to be her because it seams like she has the most interesting life. She has a nice family and a good life at school. Her friends are nice but some I don’t really like. If I could change something about her I would probably change her like in boys. Her faunas’ is a very controlling guy. I really don’t like him and way he goes about things.
Current Events (Fight)
Our NDP Leader Jack Layton is battling prostate cancer. He is also does not wanting to focus on his cancer during his work. He rather focus on the issues of his party. During the interview he started talking about an issue in Ottawa. Personally I think he was trying to stay off the subject. A reporter tried asking him how he was feeling and if he will still be sticking to his plan. Mr. Layton stated that he was feeling good and that he was hoping it would be in order still. He said during the interview that he had plenty of energy and that he wants to continue do all that is needed for his responsibilities. Further on that Friday he had told the reporters that he doesn’t and will not “step down” with his sickness and that he has a treatable type of prostate cancer.
This reflects to me because my grandmother had lung cancer. Even though she was sick she still continued to work. She did not give up and let it take over. She had the treatment and is still living. My grandma still went to work except for those days she had to do her treatment. Being strong and continuing to do the things she loves I think helped her get through it. The same with Jack he is continuing hi work and not letting it effect him in ways that he can control.
The Giver
1. After analyzing the books appearance what clues does it give you?
The setting will probably be in the forest. There will also be an old man, because there is an old man on the front of the book. The old man will probably have a very large part in this book. I also think that the community is a very orderly one, and everyone knows everyone. I think that the Giver also might be the old man from the sounds of the back. I think that the special treatment that Jonas gets has to do with the old man the forest and some war type thing.
2. The tone of the book after the listening to the first page?
I am guessing that it will be adventurous. I think the Jonas will get into trouble. I also think that the plane on the first page will be a large part in the book. I think that Jonas will be sent or get to do something with the plane.
3. What do you think the book is about? Predict!
I think that it will be and interesting. This book could have some twists and turns. Some strange things could happen. I think that the plane my have something to do with the old man on the front cover. The old man and Jonas may live together later on in this book.
